The Marleys Reimagine ‘One Love’ For UNICEF

Reggae legend Bob Marley’s more-than-four-decades-old beloved unity anthem, One Love, has been aptly reinterpreted for the recently launched United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund’s #Reimagine global campaign.

“Over forty years ago, my father wrote One Love about unity, peace and universal love during a time when there was much trouble in the world. Even in a time when we aren’t able to get together, his message remains true today, we can get through this global crisis if we come together through one love and one heart,” Cedella Marley remarked in a release.

Cedella, along with brother Stephen and son Skip, lent vocals to the reimagined version of the late Marley patriarch’s timeless classic, through a Tuff Gong International-Amplified Music collaborative effort.

A collection of other wildly talented artistes, from around the world, joined the Marleys to contributed voices to UNICEF’s #Reimagine One Love. The acts include Teeks (New Zealander singer-songwriter), TooDope (Sudanese hip-hop artiste and activist), Amrit Kaur (British-Punjabi folk singer), Mermans Mosengo & Jason Tamba (Democratic Republic of Congo band), Natty (American-British singer-songwriter), Dawtas of Aya (Brazilian trio), Raja Kumari (American-Indian hip-hop artiste and activist), Patoranking (Nigerian Reggae-dancehall singer-songwriter), and Babsy (Malian singer-songwriter).

#BobMarley75 ambassadors Kim Nain, youth from the Marley-supported Manifesto Jamaica’s mentorship programme, and the Ghetto Youths Foundation also provided additional vocals.

The agency launched the #Reimagine initiative to help implement protocols that aim to prevent a lasting COVID-19 crisis and ensure that post-pandemic systems are put in place for the protection of children, globally.

All proceeds from the song and related activities will directly support #Reimagine. Additionally, jewellery brand and UNICEF global partner, Pandora has pledged to match every dollar donated by the public to the One Love initiate, up to the value of US$1 million.
