Protoje Teams With Popcaan & Storm Saulter For ‘Royalty’

Grammy-nominated reggae artiste Protoje releases homage-paying Like Royalty video single to further tease his hotly anticipated upcoming fifth full-length album, and first Six Course/RCA debut project, In Search Of Lost Time.

The seasoned multi-hyphenate performer, for the new single, curated a major assist from acclaimed deejay Popcaan, who features prominently on the dancehall-reggae-hip hop fusion track.

Out the gate, Protoje leads the charge to deftly narrate an intimate and nuanced musical journey. Like Royalty parcels lyrical prowess, evidenced by the artiste’s uninhibited ease in delivery, that regally heaps praises on and intentionally credits the still-existing supportive group of people who helps the In.Digg.Nation chief to right the ship and stay the course.

Similarly, Popcaan shares his own humble musical beginnings – a platform, he notes, was facilitated by the wildly popular Clarkes collaboration done with Vybz Kartel and Vanessa Bling (then known as Gaza Slim) – to pointedly execute the Like Royalty’s thematic design.

Lyrics such as “if ah eva mek it in life, yuh ago be living like royalty,” illustrates a depth of gratitude that incubates the artiste’s intention of reciprocity; the basic anatomy of the song.

Filmmaker Storm Saulter, who was charged with cinematography, expertly captures eye-catching visuals across some of the island’s most recognisible Surrey county locales; from the pressure cooker-type hustle and bustle of the concrete jungle city centre to the easy-breezy lush rural foliage further east.

Protoje’s mum, singer Lorna Bennett, and other In.Digg.Nation mainstays, Sevana, Lila Ike and Jaz Elise, notably, make appearances in the video.
