5 Q&A With HoodCelebrityy

The OAJ team caught up with Bronx-honed dancehall artiste HoodCelebrityy for 5 Questions With… The 20-odd-year-old Jamaican-born performer, who is currently signed to US recording label Epic Records, has been using the prolonged quarantine down time to relax but, more importantly, to write. She is rearing to introduce her fans to new music. Join us, as we get to know a little bit more about the woman behind singles like Run Di Road.

  1. What have you been doing during this quarantine down time? Are you recording new music

Hoodcelebrityy (HC): During the Covid-19 quarantine I’ve been really focusing on my health, the things I put in my body.  I’ve been writing and perfecting my craft everyday to keep my sound different. YES! I’m definitely recording new music.

I just recorded one of my newest records, coming soon call Broke Boy. Everywhere is shut down right now, so, no one is doing concerts at the moment, but I can’t wait to get back to performing.

2. What would you consider the highlight of your career, so far?

HC: The highlight of my career, so far, was me releasing Walking Trophy because it bust down a lot of doors, got me signed, and let people know who is HoodCelebrityy.

And, now people get a chance to know me, and know all my other big records like Inna Real Life, Inside, and Bum Pon It…  Also, that record is timeless because the message in Walking Trophy is uplifting and positive.

3. What would you like to be remembered for, as an artiste or after someone reviews your discography?

HC: As an artiste, I would like to be remembered for the great music I put out and telling my stories and my life through my music. What I would like to be said, as someone reviews my biography, is, ‘Damn, this girl is different, she touched people lives with her music, and her music is iconic.’

4. What is your dream collaboration?

HC: My dream collaboration would be to work with Drake, Rihanna, Vybz Kartel, and Popcaan.

5. Who are your musical and fashion influences?

HC: Some of my musical influences are Vybz Kartel, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Luther Vandross, and a few more.

Fashion influences, hmm, I don’t really know. I always just dress based off what I like and how I feel. I always have to be me, so, I won’t wear anything that doesn’t make me feel good, even if it’s the in thing.

Yea, it is 5 Questions With… but, the OAJ team loves to give our audience a little bit extra. So, here’s a BRAWTA QUESTION: What is your guilty pleasure?

HC: My guilty pleasure is clothes. I love shopping, and I love nice clothes, even if I’m not going to wear them at the moment. I love to buy clothes and look at them in my closet… sometimes it’s weird but I make sure they don’t get dirty *laughs out loud*. I’m always working, doing shows, interviews… you never know what will come up.  I’m ready for anything.
